The 2018 Hugo Award Nominations are out, and The Good Place has TWO episodes nominated in the Best Dramatic Presentation - Short Form category. Those episodes are Michael's Gambit (the season one finale) and The Trolley Problem (2x06).

If you had to choose between those two episodes, which would you vote for? (I'm wishing I'd bought this comm some paid time just so I could post this as an actual poll right now.)

Yay, our show is getting some love!

I'm so glad the show is being recognized as SF/F!

Boy, that's a tough choice! I'm going to go with Michael's Gambit because it changed the nature of the show (even though The Trolley Problem played into a later decision).

Same. I love both episodes, but Michael's Gambit was so brilliantly done. As was the rest of the season, because I never saw what happened in it coming.

I vote in the Hugos (and you can, too! Although it requires paying for a Worldcon membership; more details here), and I plan to rank "Michael's Gambit" first, "The Trolley Problem" second (I nominated "Michael's Gambit" and "Dance Dance Resolution"). Although "The Trolley Problem" is a fantastic episode, like others I have to give the edge to "Michael's Gambit" because of how it revolutionized the nature of the show.

I, too, am super thrilled to see the show recognized in this way. It's going to have a hard time beating Star Trek and Black Mirror, but I think it has a shot.

Both are great, because Michael's Gambit reveals the reality of the situation, but I'd have to go with the trolley problem because it is a hilarious demonstration of the ethics questions the show wants to explore. Informative and entertaining!

maybe it's just because i've seen it more recently, but... the trolley problem. it didn't need a huge setup (like the season 1 finale did) but worked all on its own. it was poignant and hilarious.

I'd probably pick "Michael's Gambit", but it's a really tough choice. If Eleanor hadn't realized in the middle of everything that she's genuinely into Tahani, or if the double apology towards the end of "The Trolley Problem" had worked better for me, I could totally have gone the other way.

Yay our show!
