I think an organized rewatch is a great idea (but I realize that not everyone is as obsessive about rewatching media as I am). We have 26 episodes now. That's plenty for a rewatch leading up to season three. If we can get even a half dozen opinionated people to show up regularly, that will be more than sufficient for good discussion. After that, episode three discussion posts, speculation posts, promo posts. It would wonderful to see people repost their icons and fic and podfic and fanart. Fanvids! RECS!

To let people know about the community and the rewatch, assuming you want to do one, you'll need promo posts in all the usual places. Season one, a break, then season two would be my suggestion for a schedule but I am literally up for anything. If we did one episode a week, beginning in March, with one week off in between seasons, that would take us up to the end of August. I am guessing the new season in the USA will start sometime in September. If March is too close, we can always double up, watch two episodes a week starting in the summer.

It is probably obvious but I would love to help out in any way I can. I have organized mini-rewatches for TXF in a couple of LJ communities which were very fun and successful and I did a complete rewatch of Fringe here at DW which was fun for me, at least, although I was never able to get anyone much to participate.

I have next to no graphics skills but I can add text to one of NBC's promo banners, shrink it, and try to make one of those box thingies so people can copy-paste the announcement banner. Or you could make one. Or we could ask

I've been planning to rewatch anyway, so a comm rewatch with discussion posts sounds good to me. Weekly starting in March works for me, and gives me a little time to figure out this promo thing - I have no idea where the usual places are!

In case it's not immediately obvious (it is!) I've never done this before. I haven't ever been that active on DW and I don't really belong to any active comms here so I'm pretty clueless. Help is greatly appreciated! Do you want me to make you an administrator for the comm? I don't know how much difference that makes, but I'm happy to do so if you want.

An announcement banner would be great, I have absolutely no graphics skills at all! And the links post sounds like a good resource to get us started - I'll keep an eye out for other stuff to link in the run up to season 3.

No problem! I am happy to help, always. The usual places for promotion which I am aware of are

fandomcalendar,

dw_community_promo, and

fandom_on_dw. Subscribing to/joining those communities is a good way to find new and/or active communities. The communities have rules for the size of banner they allow (which I'll check) and frequency of posting (ditto), if you want help promoting the community.

I have no idea what making me a community mod/admin does (which is odd, I should) but it is never a bad thing to have two people listed as mods for a community. But as long as I have posting privileges, it's all good. You don't know me (YET) so I understand if you're hesitant to add me as a mod.

I'll first try putting out a plea for a banner on my flist--some talented graphics people follow me. If no one offers, I'll make two simple banners: one for a promo banner for the community and one for the rewatch.

What day of the week is good for you? Any day is good for me--I'm retired. The show aired on Thursdays here, I think, which would transition to the weekly USA show dates.

The most successful small fandom community on DW that I've participated in is

theamericans. I would take a look through their posts to get one example of how to format discussion posts, speculation posts and so on. I think they had a Introduce Yourself post when it first started up. They've never done a rewatch that I can recall. I know they give everyone who joins posting access. You can look at

xf_is_love for an example of a rewatch format. I borrowed it from

xf_rewatch which actually watched all nine seasons starting back in 2007, I think. Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end. Ignore the stupid Photobucket placeholders.

I hope some of that made sense.

Cool, thanks so much for all the advice. I've made comm promo posts at dw_community_promo and fandom_on_dw for now to get the ball rolling - I'll keep an eye on the rules and post again when it's permitted. And I'll make promo posts for the rewatch in a few days once we firm things up.

I've made a note of that posting format. I think Thursday is a good day for rewatching, yeah. I'm pretty sure everyone who joins this comm has posting access but I'll doublecheck the settings.

An Introduce Yourself post is a great idea, I'll post one soon! We've picked up a few members already which is nice to see.

You've already made the promo posts, that's great. I asked in my journal yesterday for a banner and

cookiegirl agreed to make one for me. I can post it in the community, if you like, when it's done, with a copy and paste box thingie, so that members can to use it to promote the community in their own journals?

I'll make the promo banner for the rewatch for you, assuming you want one? I just need a start date for it. How does March 8th, which is two weeks from tomorrow, sound?

That would be awesome! I can also post to those comms again with the banner next week. And yeah, I think a promo banner for the rewatch is a good plan if you're OK to make one. The 8th works for me, and gives us a bit of time to do promo etc.

I love the idea of a re-watch schedule. Though currently it's a bit tough to pull off since Season 1 is on Netflix, the last half of Season 2 is on Hulu, and the first half of Season 2 is nowhere to be found (legally) that I'm aware of.

Hopefully Netflix will do us a solid and put Season 2 up soon....

Goodness. I hope they do, too.

It is times like these that I am thankful for my Paleozoic TV watching habits. I don't have Netflix or Hulu (or Amazon Prime) so I bought season one as soon as it was released on DVD. Now I have season two on my DVR, except for the first episode which inexplicably MY HUSBAND DELETED, probably to make room for a damned BB game. I hope it's still available on Spectrum On Demand.

If we start the rewatch on March 8th, we won't get to season two until the middle of June. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I can buy 2X01 for $2.99 on Amazon if I absolutely must have it.

Usually I wait for the library to buy DVDs and borrow them (I just finished season one of The Crown and everyone else has seen season two) but I knew I would rewatch The Good Place often enough to justify the purchase in my frugal little brain.
