Huh!

I relate really hard to both Eleanor (despite being a lifetime non-drinker) AND Chidi.

I relate to Eleanor because: severely neglectful parents messed me up in a way that makes it hard for me to relate to/bond with other people, so I always feel outside the group.

I relate to Chidi because: Anxiety, overthinking everything, difficulty making decisions, want to do the right thing.

I wouldn't have said I related to any of them but if forced to choose I would have said Chidi simply because he's an academic and, to some degree, his work is about getting to the core of humanity's behavior. I'm afraid I never studied philosophy though -- my only course in it was logic and it was not what I'd hoped.

What caught my attention is that we've heard about Eleanor's parenting, we've even seen Tahani's, but I don't recall hearing anything about either Jason or Chidi's families, which you'd think would have had to have an equally significant effect on them.

I can't be Mindy because I discovered, back in the 80s, that I genuinely did not enjoy cocaine. I did have a closetful of those suits, though.

I've never tried coke, but I've had a fair few other... stimulants.

I don't personally find this accurate, but my own assessment of why I relate to certain characters isn't flattering.

I relate to Chidi for a lot of reasons other people do. I really want to do the right thing, but I have a lot of anxiety and I'm not good at making decisions.

The hard one, for me, is Tahani. I'm not very good at making friends. The people I would list as the best friends I have would not consider me much more than someone they occasionally don't mind being around (I'm not exaggerating, it's been hard coming to terms with this), and TBH I've been suffering from pretty major depression over the loneliness this causes.

Your last paragraph sounds VERY Un-Tahani, who is an annoying name-dropper for sure, but seems to actually be quite good at making friends, or at least contacts. Just not QUITE as good as her sister. But perhaps I am reading her (and maybe you) wrong.

I saw her as the one always in her sister's shadow, no matter what she does, she can't compare to her sister.

I think that's how she perceives herself, but self-perception is not always accurate, and the number of names she drops would indicate that there's a fair few people who she can count as friends.

That could be, but I interpret the name dropping as a cover to make herself seem more interesting to people.
